The Skansen Visitor Guide is an independent reading companion for travellers heading to Skansen, the open-air museum set on Djurgården island in the heart of Stockholm. We bring together a small, carefully chosen selection of books and travel guides that help you make the most of your visit.
The island museum
Founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius, Skansen is the oldest open-air museum in the world. More than 150 historic buildings — farmsteads, workshops, manor houses and a whole town quarter — were brought here from every corner of Sweden and rebuilt on the island. Alongside them lives a menagerie of Nordic wildlife: brown bears, wolves, lynx, moose, seals and more. Walking through Skansen is like walking through five centuries of Swedish everyday life in a single afternoon.
What we do
We don't sell tickets to the park itself. Instead, we curate the books worth reading before, during and after your trip — from the classic visitor handbook to richly illustrated histories of traditional Swedish style and the full Lonely Planet guide to Scandinavia. Every title has its own page on this site with a clear description and a link to purchase.
Please note: The Skansen Visitor Guide is an independent project and is not the official website of the Skansen museum. Purchases are completed through our partner store; please review the seller's terms before buying.
